Watermelon Pickles

1 good sized watermelon (or 2 small)
salted water
7 c white sugar
1/2 tsp oil of cinnamon
2 c vinegar
1/2 tsp oil of cloves

Remove outside peeling, leaving rind. Cut up and put in a pan, covered with salted water. Soak for several hours. Cook until transparent. Dump into colander.

**Cook syrup:**
Boil 7 c white sugar, 2 c vinegar, 1/2 tsp oil of cinnamon, and 1/2 tsp oil of cloves for 3 to 4 minutes. Dump in watermelon.
Next day: drain juice and heat - put pickles back into hot juice

Next day: heat whole thing and put into jars
